The Nike motto is catchy. We see in printed on shirts and plastered on billboards. It's not uncommon, by any sense of the word.
Which is a true shame. We see and hear it so often, we forget how truly profound it is.
Just do it!
How much of life do we miss out on because we just don't do it? We don't take the initiative.
How much of life do we miss out on because we just don't do it? We don't take the initiative.
Last summer my roommates and I went skydiving. We have grown up on the same street since we were kids, and we had always talked about how we wanted to go skydiving someday.
One day Brady just up and said, "You guys wanna go skydiving next weekend?" And we were like "sure", and within the hour he had booked us at Skydive Utah. Mind you, this was one of a dozen skydiving companies to choose from in Utah.
It was $195 for a 13,500 ft jump. It wasn't even that expensive. It wasn't even that far--a little less than an hour drive. And it wasn't even that scary. You're so far up when you jump, it doesn't even feel real.
Falling at 120 mph, with the wind whooshing around you, seeing the Earth laid out so beautifully in all directions is priceless. Exhilarating beyond description. Actually, it was so exhilarating that even though 20 minutes after jumping a girl I was seeing called me and said things weren't going to work out and we would date other people, I didn't even care. I still had so much adrenaline in my system that it wasn't until 2 days later that it dawned on me that I'd been dumped.
Anyway, I have never done anything so exhilarating before or since. It was incredible!
The thing is that it didn't take that much time, not an astronomical account of money, or any effort at all. We just did it.
I thought, "How many people say for years and years they want to go skydiving, and they never do?" And really, the only thing that's stopping them is the tiny amount of initiative it takes to book it on skydiveutah.com (or whichever company you want to go with).
Another example out just not doing it is my good friend Derek's dad, Dan Geslison. Brother Geslison served a mission in Tokyo, Japan almost 40 years ago. He always tells me how sad he is that he has "never made it back" to Japan.
I have a great deal of love and respect for Bro. Geslison, and I in no way mean this as a slant, but... he says he has never made it back to Japan. The funny thing is, I know he has the money. I know he has the time. Why hasn't he ever gone back? Because he has never buckled down and planned the trip.
That's all there is to it.
What opportunities are you missing out on because you're just not doing it? Think about it. And then go out there and just do it!
